About Curling
Curling is a team sport that originated in Scotland hundreds of years ago. It is filled with rich traditions. Each team is made up of 4 people who rotate between sliding the stones and sweeping. The goal of the sport is to slide a stone that's 42 lbs, down about 135 ft of ice and end up closer to the center than your opponent's. It has become an Olympic sport an is enjoyed throughout the world. Interestingly, despite being created in Scotland, Canada has assumed a position of leadership in the sport where it is as popular as hockey.
Curling has been growing quickly in the US particularly with young people. There have been great advances in the area of college curling. There are many college clubs especially in Wisconsin and Minnesota. In Iowa the Drake University Curling Club is the first and only curling club.
